0. Context

After the success of the CAM-Slim and the first Pan-Tilt generation, Sonoff is back with the CAM-PT2, a compact motorized camera packed with improvements.
The idea? Provide real 360° coverage, color night vision, smarter human detection, and even a privacy shutter option.

In short, this is a camera designed for everyday home use, but serious enough to appeal to demanding smart home enthusiasts.

1. Full Panoramic Coverage

The CAM-PT2 is not just a fixed camera.
It integrates a dual motor system allowing it to:

  • Rotate up to 340° horizontally,

  • Tilt up to 180° vertically.

In practice, when placed in the corner of a room, it covers almost 100% of the space, with no blind spots.
On top of that, it already offers an optical field of view greater than 100° — so even without moving, it captures a wide area.

Better yet: you can set up to 6 preset positions. A single tap moves the camera instantly to a specific control point (front door, window, hallway…). Perfect for multi-zone use.

It’s also possible to define a privacy zone.

Il est également possible de definir une zone de vie privée

2. Smart Night Vision

This is THE highlight of this version: hybrid night vision.

The camera includes two systems:

  • 940 nm invisible IR LEDs: total discretion, no visible red glow. Range ~10 m.

  • Automatic white LEDs: triggered by ambient light, they allow color night vision.

In practice, you can choose between:

  • Fully invisible mode (IR only),

  • Color night mode (white LEDs),

  • Or Auto mode, switching depending on light conditions.

The result: no more pixelated grey images at night. Here, the output is clear enough to identify a person or object even in darkness.

Résultat : plus d’images grises pixelisées la nuit. Ici, le rendu est exploitable pour identifier clairement une personne ou un objet même dans l’obscurité.

3. Intelligent Detection & Configurable Zones

Another major upgrade: AI human detection.
The algorithm distinguishes a human silhouette from simple light changes or moving objects (curtain, pet, fan…).

This drastically reduces false alerts.

Even better: within the eWeLink app, you can set custom detection zones.
Example: monitor only the door or hallway, while ignoring the rest of the room.

Each human movement triggers an instant notification with a snapshot.
And you can even track the person with the smart tracking option or create intelligent scenes!

4. Built-In Privacy

Sonoff understands that a home camera also needs to “step aside.”
The CAM-PT2 includes two privacy levels:

  • Private zone masking: define on-screen zones that will never be recorded (e.g. a work desk).

  • Physical shutter: a motorized cover that completely hides the lens. No doubt here — the camera is off, visibly.

A real advantage compared to “cloud-only” cameras that provide no visual guarantee.

Even better: you can set specific hours when the camera goes offline!

5. Two-Way Audio

On the audio side, the CAM-PT2 keeps it simple but effective:

  • A sensitive microphone captures ambient sounds.

  • A built-in speaker lets you respond directly from the app.

  • Even an alarm function (though more of a gimmick than a real siren, honestly).

Perfect for talking to a child, calming a pet, or… scaring off an intruder.
Quality isn’t hi-fi, but perfectly fine for intercom use.

6. Local & Cloud Storage

The camera offers real flexibility in storage:

  • microSD card up to 128 GB (Class 10 recommended).

  • eWeLink Cloud with continuous or event-based recording (paid option).

This dual setup lets you mix local and cloud: keep a local backup on SD for autonomy, and the cloud for easy access while away.

7. Advanced Smart Home Integration

The CAM-PT2 is primarily designed for eWeLink (Sonoff), with direct compatibility with Alexa and Google Assistant (voice + smart displays).

But most importantly: it supports RTSP and ONVIF.
That means you can integrate it with:

  • Home Assistant (generic camera integration or ONVIF),

  • Jeedom (camera plugin),

  • Synology/QNAP NVR,

  • Or any ONVIF-compatible system.

⚠️ Limitation: some users report that the RTSP/ONVIF stream is only stable if the camera remains connected to the internet (even for local use). Something to keep in mind.

Example with HA:
Several options show up natively, even if only the RTSP stream is pulled!

8. Simple Installation

Installation follows the Sonoff tradition:

  1. Plug the camera via USB-C (5 V / 2 A).

  2. Launch eWeLink and scan the QR code.

  3. The camera pairs in under a minute.

For reset: long press (~5 s) until the beep.
After that, it’s instantly usable on your phone or integrated via RTSP in your smart home scenarios.

9. Strengths / Weaknesses

Strengths:

  • Smooth motorization and wide coverage (340°/180°).

  • Hybrid night vision (invisible IR + color).

  • AI human detection + configurable zones.

  • Privacy shutter and masking.

  • Mixed storage (local SD + cloud).

  • RTSP/ONVIF compatibility for smart home integrations.

  • Very competitive price.

Weaknesses:

  • Indoor-only (no IP65).

  • Dependence on cloud for some advanced services.

  • RTSP stream unstable without internet (user reports).

  • No 5 GHz Wi-Fi support.

10. Summary

The Sonoff CAM-PT2 ticks all the boxes for a modern indoor smart camera: motorized, intelligent, privacy-friendly, and easily integrated into pro ecosystems.

It’s clearly one of the best budget PTZ/RTSP options right now.
Perfect for a living room, a child’s bedroom, or a home office.
Less suited if you want a fully local-only solution.

I hope you enjoyed this review — and don’t forget: life is a party!
